Career consultations

Overview

What it is

A conversation about your career, not a sales call

The IT training market is confusing on purpose. There are hundreds of certifications, most course pages tell you what is in the syllabus rather than what it is worth, and the honest answer to “which one should I do?” depends entirely on where you are starting from and what you are aiming at.

A career consultation is twenty minutes with somebody who teaches this for a living, working out which route is yours. It is free, there is nothing to sign, and it is the same conversation whether you end up training with us or not.

How it works

What we cover, in order

01
01

Where you are now

What you do, what you have done before, and what you already know — including the things you taught yourself and never got a certificate for. Most people undersell this part.

02
02

Where you want to be

A job title, a salary, a shift pattern, or just “out of what I am doing now”. Any of those is a workable starting point.

03
03

What actually gets you there

Which certification employers in that field are advertising for, in what order, and how long each one realistically takes alongside a job.

04
04

What it costs, in writing

The course, the exam, the resit policy, and whether there is funding you qualify for. Before you commit to anything.

Four things worth knowing beforehand

01

It is free, and it stays free

There is no charge and no obligation. You can have the conversation and go elsewhere.

02

Twenty minutes, usually

By phone, online, or in the academy in Middlesbrough. Longer if you want it.

03

A person who has done the job

You are talking to a trainer, not a call centre working through a script.

04

We will tell you not to

If a course will not get you where you want to go, or you are already qualified enough and need experience instead, that is what we will say.
